The construction project

The Albula Tunnel, a major infrastructure project of the Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland, connects Tiefencastel and Preda and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscape." After more than 100 years of operation, the original tunnel was replaced by a modern, safety- and environmentally optimized tunnel.
The new tunnel ensures improved traffic safety and capacity while minimizing negative environmental impacts. Delivery was made by rail, as truck use was not possible due to winter road closures.

Hodapp Tunnel Swing Gate (HTD-1) with integrated escape sliding door:

The Hodapp swing gate with integrated escape sliding door offers a dual safety function: During normal operation, it ensures the protection of the tunnel sections, while the escape sliding door enables rapid evacuation in emergencies.

  • Material: Galvanized steel with corrosion-resistant coating

  • Fire protection classes: EI2-180 according to DIN EN 1634-1

  • Smoke protection: According to EN 1634-3

  • Burglary protection: Up to RC-3

  • Pressure/suction load: 6.000 Pa

  • Escape sliding door: Separately integrated emergency opening with automatic or manual operation

  • Dimensions: Flexibly adaptable for different tunnel cross-sections

Hodapp fire-resistant sliding gate (HFS)

The Hodapp fire-resistant sliding door was specially developed for large-format openings in tunnels and offers reliable protection against fire spread and smoke development. It is integrated into wall recesses and remains virtually invisible during normal operation.

  • Material: Galvanized steel, optionally primed and painted in RAL colors

  • Fire protection classes: EI2-180 according to DIN EN 1634-1

  • Smoke protection: According to EN 1634-3

  • Burglary protection: Up to RC-2

  • Pressure/suction load: 6.000 Pa

  • Operation: Electrically operated with automatic closing function in case of danger

  • Accessories: panic release, emergency opening device, pressure relief slats
