Gubrist Tunnel

Gubrist | Switzerland

The construction project

The Gubrist Tunnel in Switzerland is a motorway tunnel which was opened in 1985 with two tunnel tubes. It is part of the Zurich northern bypass.

The tunnel is one of the busiest roads in Switzerland, so an additional third tube is being built to relieve traffic. The three new lanes in the tube are open to traffic in the direction of Bern/Basel/Lucerne/Chur.

With an excavation diameter of 16 m, this is the widest tunnel tube in Switzerland.

Product-specific requirements for doors:

  • Fire protection classes EI2-30
  • Burglar resistance RC2

Technical data:

  • Commissioning: April 2023
  • Tunnel length: 3.200 m | Tunnel width: 16 m
  • Operator: Federal Roads Office (ASTRA)
  • Construction company: Marti AG Solothurn

Hodapp fire protection sliding door (HFS):

Our sliding doors are made as individual special designs so that they can be adapted precisely to the tunnel walls. Doors with special dimensions can also be made.

In dangerous situations, people can leave the tunnel tube along the marked escape route through the fire protection sliding door into a protected area.

  • Material: Highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel

  • Single-leaf

  • Painting according to RAL

  • Fire protection class EI2-30 to EI2-120

Hodapp Tunnel Swing Gate (HTD):

With integrated Hodapp fire protection sliding door (HFS)

The Hodapp Tunnel Swing Gate (HTD) is used in the roadway area to create a separation between the tunnel sections.

In the event of a fire, the door must be able to withstand external influences such as heat and smoke to prevent the fire from spreading.

In an emergency, the gates must be able to be opened quickly and easily so that a rapid evacuation can take place.

The integrated Hodapp fire protection sliding gate (HFS) can be easily opened in an emergency. In dangerous situations, people can leave the tunnel tube along the marked escape route through the fire protection sliding door into a fire-safe area.
