The construction project

After more than ten years of construction, the 1.600 m long Karoline-Luise Tunnel extends beneath Kriegsstrasse and relieves traffic. Starting at the car ramp west of Karlstor, drivers are now guided through the tunnel to the Ostendstrasse junction on Ludwig-Erhard-Allee.

The Karoline-Luise Tunnel, together with the tram tunnel completed in 2021, is part of the Karlsruhe combined solution. The goal: a modern transport infrastructure for the city of Karlsruhe.

Hodapp escape route doors:

Escape route doors serve to protect road users in tunnels. In dangerous situations, people can leave the tunnel tube along the marked escape route into a fire-safe area. The escape route doors from Hodapp comply with the currently applicable regulations of TL/TP TTT and EABT-80/100.

Hodapp emergency call niche walls:

The Hodapp Tunnel niche walls are prefabricated concrete walls that are equipped with large glazed emergency niche doors. In addition to these access doors, the emergency niche walls have a compartment for fire extinguishers.

The product guarantees fire protection up to T90 according to DIN 4102-5. The high durability of the concrete walls is achieved through special additives.

This product allows access to technical rooms in the tunnel. The door is only operated by trained and authorized personnel.

Hodapp electronic niche walls:

Electronic walls are prefabricated concrete walls that allow access to electrical distribution niches. The electronic walls serve to protect the tunnel technology from external influences such as dirt, exhaust fumes and moisture. These measures ensure that the system remains functional in the event of an emergency. Access is only permitted for authorized personnel.
